Mendip put in an excellent team performance at Wimborne on Saturday to take all three points and move up to fourth place in the league.

After a solid first half-hour which saw Mendip’s youngsters and more senior players working well together, Mendip took the lead on the stroke of half-time. Strong running from Ella Sage stretched the Wimborne defence, creating space for Brenda Scott to slot home.

Hayley Young doubled Mendip’s lead shortly after the break, firing in from a well-rehearsed penalty corner set piece.

Wimborne got back into the game with a shot that lofted into the roof of the net following a deflection, but Mendip were not to be deterred.

More good passing and movement forced the home side to concede a series of penalty corners. With just moments remaining, player of the match, Hayley Bullock, conjured up a trademark near-post flick to put the icing on a convincing win.

This Saturday, Mendip are at home to TeamBath Buccs (10.30 a.m.)
