It has been a week of two halves for Norwest Bowls Club this week; losing being the order of the day for the first half, while successes came during the latter half.
The first half saw our ladies defeated in both their Tuesday and Thursday Mid-Somerset League games. The first game was away at Chew Stoke on a lovely sunny afternoon and it was a game which was thoroughly enjoyed by all our ladies, even though we lost.
The second game was away to Keynsham and once again, we suffered another defeat. I must say, though, in our defence, that with our shortage of lady bowlers, we are playing some of our very new ladies and they are doing a sterling job for us while gaining valuable experience.
The Men’s first half of the week game was a MSL game away to Frome Selwood, and saw them lose 13–3, although overall, it was only by four shots.
And then we come to the second half, and what a change in our fortunes. On Friday evening, we welcomed Keynsham to Norwest’s green for a mixed MSL game, which we won 10–2 by 22 shots and this seemed to herald a change in our fortunes, as it was win win for the rest of the week.
The Saturday Men’s County League games saw both our A and B teams playing at home on a very hot, sunny afternoon. The A team played the chaps from Fosseway, and claimed victory, collecting all twelve of the points on offer with a fourteen shot difference, while the B team met the Paulton boys and won 8–4, but only by eight shots. Well done lads!
Sunday was another hot, sunny afternoon and Norwest were at home for a friendly game against Avon Bowls Club, winning by four shots overall.
Can I just remind members that the catering list for games is up on the noticeboard and there are still spaces, particularly for friendly games, if you would like to help. Come on, how about some new volunteers – instead of the same old faces every time?
