With Christmas drawing ever nearer, we saw the troops gather at Norwest on Sunday for the annual Christmas dinner and draw evening. As usual, we were served a really excellent turkey dinner with all the trimmings, followed by Christmas pudding with custard or brandy sauce, cheese and biscuits and the whole meal then polished off with coffee and mints.
As usual, this was all thanks to chef extraordinaire, Ann Woodham, and her team of Mary, Val, Rex, Lyn and her long suffering husband, Ken. Brilliant job – thank you all so much for all of your hard work and can I book for next year, please?! Also we must thank our barmen, Ron and Brian, who kept all our spirits up. With everyone’s stomachs full and glasses charged, we then sat back for the Christmas draw.
An amazing array of prizes were waiting to be claimed and, as usual calls of ‘shake ’em up’ and ‘not you again’ accompanied the drawing of numbers, even though there were no numbers to shake up, as technology has set in at Norwest – we used my iPad. I must say it was gratifying to find out how many people wanted to ‘push my button’! Overall, it was a really great evening, much enjoyed by all who were there.
Just a reminder now that the Bath 18+ Gateway Club will be holding their New Year’s Party at Norwest on December 29th, and any member who would like to come along will be welcome.
I have tickets which will include the buffet, so if you’re interested, just give me a call on: 01761 479310. Big Ben will ring in the ‘New Year’ at 10.30 p.m., when we’ll all enjoy a rousing chorus of ‘Auld Lang Syne’. It’s a great evening and just right as a dress rehearsal for the real thing.
And now I would like to take this opportunity, on behalf of myself and Norwest, to wish all members, fellow bowlers, skittlers and friends a very Happy and Merry Christmas. I hope Santa is kind to you all and don’t eat too much – as we’ll need you fit for the 2017 season!
