Firstly we must say well done to Ladies’ Captain Carole Jenner-Timms for reaching the Semi-final of the National Ladies’ Singles. She played International Steff Branfield on Sunday at Bath Bowling Club, but even though she lost, she played a very good game.

The Ladies played a team from Bath Bowling club on Tuesday, in the North Somerset League, but lost on all rinks. It was better news on Thursday, when they beat Congresbury at home on all rinks, in the Mendip League, claiming all ten points.

Wednesday saw the men getting their revenge on friends from Prattens, by winning on three rinks, drawing on one rink, and winning overall by only four shots. All rinks were very close and Fosseway picked up 15 of the 16 points.

Castle Cary was the venue for the Ladies’ Fear Cup on Friday, we won on one rink, drew on one but lost on the third rink, and lost the game overall. We will now play in the Fear Plate against Shepton Mallet, on 21st July, at home.

The Southey Cup was played at home against Stothert and Pitt. This is played as one rink of four, one triples, one pairs and one singles. We won on three of these and lost on one, so are through to the next round, which is against Alexandra Park, to be played by 23rd July.

The men played in the County League against Bath B, winning on one rink, but losing on the other two, and losing the game, thus getting two points.

On Sunday, we were visited by a team from Barnwood, Gloucester, for a mixed friendly game. There was much jollity on the green and we lost the game overall, but as they say the result is immaterial if everyone enjoys the game, which seemed to be the case. We will have a return game with Barnwood on their green next year.

Don’t forget Barbara Jones’s open morning on Friday 14th at her home, 10 a.m. –12 noon. Everyone welcome, come and enjoy a tea or coffee and some home-made cakes. Don’t worry if the weather is bad, there is plenty of room inside.

Everyone is welcome to Monday evening club night. New members always welcome, with tuition on hand.
