Fosseway Bowls Club held its annual presentation dinner at the Best Western Centurion Hotel on Saturday, 19th November, when more than fifty members were presented with complementary drinks and rose button holes on arrival.
Before the evening began, a minute’s silence was observed in memory of two long serving members of the club who very sadly passed away this year, namely Ronnie (as he was known) Ball and Alan Hobbs. Both will be greatly missed.
President Clive then welcomed everyone to the 30th presentation evening, the club being formed in 1986.
He thanked everyone who had participated in helping with the many maintenance tasks that always need attention, including hedge cutting, painting, green care and the wonderful floral displays.
Many congratulations to our Ladies who had quite an outstanding year by winning both of their leagues. This was received with rapturous applause.
Congratulations were also afforded to Celia Soby, who had been invited to become a county selector. Well done, Celia. We all wish you well.
Clive also welcomed founder member, Tony Jones, who, along with himself, were the only two founder members present.
After Grace was delivered a superb three course meal was enjoyed by all. Our grateful thanks to Mark and his staff.
After the obligatory comfort break, club secretary, Ray Soby, presided over the presentation of the many trophies that were on display.
It was good to see some different recipients this year.
After the presentations, Ray expressed thanks to Tony Cooper for all his hard work in running the competitions.
During the evening we were entertained by the guitar playing duo, Adrian & Co.
Many events are programmed for the close season and already there has been a games evening, a bingo session and more. The Christmas Dinner will be held on December 16th.
