Purnell Bowls Club’s Chief Coach, Mel Bowen, says he is absolutely over the moon with the progress of one of his young players.
Norton Hill School pupil, fifteen-year-old Grace Stammers, who joined the club in October 2013, came along to the regular coaching sessions for young players and used her bowls training as part of the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze award.
Grace was selected to play for the Outdoor Somerset County Under-25s team at Knowle in August and has since played for the Indoor team several times. Most recently, at Bristol Indoor Bowls Club on January 3rd, her rink won 18–5 and Somerset won by 25 shots overall.
The indoor winter season is in full swing at Purnell, open from 9.15 a.m. to 10.15 p.m. every day. Decorating of the enlarged clubroom and new kitchen is underway and should be ready for the outdoor presentation on February 27th.
