Fosseway Bowls Club are now preparing for the start of the new outdoor season. At the recent management meeting, plans for the summer were discussed, including membership, maintenance and many social events that will be taking place.

The closed season has not meant that club members have not been active. There have been fortnightly social events held, including film nights, quizzes and games evenings.

On Tuesday, 14th February, a Valentine’s dinner was put on for the Ladies. On arrival, they were greeted by Club President, Clive, who presented them with a a glass of pink champagne and a red rose. A three course meal was then served when the men acted as waiters. Once again, a truly memorable evening in the true Fosseway tradition.

Three away days have been arranged to new venues this year, and we will be welcoming at least three touring teams to the green. Regarding the green, even at this time of year it is looking in excellent condition. Our thanks to Matthew Phillips and his team who have been busy during the winter ensuring the playing surface will be ready for the opening day.

Any men or women who may be looking for a new sport to participate in will be welcome at the club on our Open Evenings on Monday, 10th, Tuesday 11th and Wednesday, 12th April. Just turn up at the club at 6.30 p.m., where you will be introduced to the club and members. A free drink will be offered and qualified coaches will be available. Shoes and bowls will be provided. Limited membership will be free for the first year to anyone who has not played bowls before. Finished playing rugby or football? Then bowls could be the sport for you!

For more information about the club, please contact Club Secretary, Ray Soby, telephone: 01761 453218 or any club member.
