Shame on you, Norwest members! Where were you all on Saturday evening? To say that we were a bit thin on the ground for the Beetle Drive, which was the first of our social evenings of 2018, would be a bit of an understatement!

I know that it’s an effort to come out in the evenings when the weather has been so abysmal, and with so many winter bugs around I suppose you can be forgiven, but I have to say you missed out on a real treat. Those who did come along had a really super time, with dice flying across the tables, pens busily drawing a vast variety of beetles, a loaded table of goodies for our American supper, which came complete with beetle cakes, and loads of chatter and many a laugh.

The scores were very close and with 133 points we thought that Ayeisha was our winner, but after a recount of Mary’s score, it turned out that with 140 points and not 130 as she had originally totalled it, Mary was declared to be the winner, which was a little worrying as Mary is our club treasurer! Perhaps the profits from the evening should be put to good use: a new calculator?

So what else is going on at Norwest during the off season? Well, the cribbage and skittle leagues are in full swing. We have two teams in the Radstock and District Cribbage League – both of which unfortunately, are not having the best of seasons. However, there is still time for an upsurge in your fortunes and if it’s any consolation I think there’s a wooden spoon for the losers.

As for our skittles, we have three teams in the Paulton and District League: the Roughedges, The Chilli Crew and the Norwest Ten – all of whom could do with a bit of a boost in their fortunes as well. Hopefully it will be a season of two halves for our skittlers, and with the start of the second half, the pins will start falling and our teams will be on the up.

Finally, I’d like to remind you of our next social evening. It’s on Saturday, 17th February, just a few days after Valentine’s Day, and hopefully we’ll all still be feeling the love for a fun-packed evening. So come on Norwesters, make sure this one’s in your diary and don’t miss out.
