With the end of the season almost upon us, this weekend saw a very relaxed atmosphere at Norwest. It was Finals Weekend, and with only a couple of Ladies League games and our annual friendly against Alexandra Park and Captains’ Day to go, members were making the most of the club competition finals.
We had lots of spectators, who were treated to some excellent bowling and some truly cracking matches and while the competition was stiff, the games were played with great bonhomie. Congratulations go to all who reached the finals, both winners and runners-up. This year’s presentation evening is on Saturday, 17th November, at Norwest, so, if it’s not already there, get the date in your diaries.
While the lads have finished all their league games, the girls are struggling on, and it’s been quite battle this year. With so few ladies, many of who are new players and therefore lacking experience, our wins have been few, but the team spirit has continued and with the knowledge gained throughout the season, our girls are confident that things can only get better in 2019.
On Tuesday, the Ladies were at home to Purnell in a North Somerset League game, and on Thursday, the girls ventured forth to Wyrall Park, where they played the girls from the City of Wells, whose green is unplayable, in a
re-arranged Wild League game. We lost both games, but the girls enjoyed some good bowling and some great company.
Now a couple of reminders, this year’s Men’s meeting is on Sunday, 14th October, at 10.30 a.m. Make sure you come along lads, as this is your chance to have your say. Our Ladies’ Meeting date has been changed to Sunday, 7th
October, at 2.30 p.m., so get it changed in your diaries, girls. It would be a shame to miss out on the cake!
And finally, to Captain’s Day. As usual, this is eagerly anticipated by all our members, and it’s great week for my write-up with so much to report, however, this year I won’t get to do the honours, as I’ll be away on holiday. But never fear, my second in command, Avis, will be on the case and regaling you with all the Norwest news.
N.H.
