Well what a surprise that was! I know the weather forecast said we’d have snow, but it still comes as a surprise when it actually arrives, especially when there’s so much of it!

I remember when I was younger, there was always great excitement when it snowed and a day off school always went down well. However, now with ‘one of those’ birthdays approaching, I prefer to see snow on my Christmas cards, so it was with great delight that I welcomed the first sign of spring this week. Was it a daffodil poking up through the ground or catkins in the hedgerow? Maybe a newborn lamb? Oh no, none of those. So what could it be? Well, it was the list of bowls fixtures for 2019!

Our two match secretaries, Lynn Frampton and Martyn Hunt, have been very busy beavering away, arranging all our games for the 2019 bowls season, and they send them to me so I can do the new fixture lists. Having had a quick look through, it looks as if we’re in for a busy time at Norwest this year.

The new lists will be ready for Subs night, which is on Saturday, 23rd March at 7.30 p.m. If you’re not a bowler, but are interested in finding out more about bowling and Norwest Bowls Club, pop along and meet us for a chat. We’re a friendly bunch, and I’ll make sure I print an extra copy of the fixture list especially for you.

Lastly, just a reminder for those of you who want to say a final farewell to our fellow member and friend, Harold Stephens – Harold’s funeral is on Friday, 8th March at 10.15 a.m. at the top chapel at Haycombe, Bath. There is no specific club dress code, but maybe it would be nice if we could all wear our club pin badges as members of Norwest. NH
