Oh dear, I’ve done it again! All this technology just gets too much for me sometimes. Last week, as usual, I sent my ‘bit’ off to The Journal, but it appears I sent them an empty document.

By the time I found out I’d missed the deadline. They very kindly put it online along with the photo, but I know some of our members are more technophobic than I am, so I’ll start off with a recap of last week’s news.

Basically, it was saying a great big thank you to all those who turned up for our spring cleaning morning, especially Kath, who came armed with a delicious coffee cake. The picture was of Mary, our ‘Doubting Thomas’, who said that nobody would turn up, along with all of our wonderful volunteers, and it’s still on The Journal website if you’d like to take a peek!

Now, for our Fish and Chip Skittles supper. As most of you know, our winter Fish and Chips Skittle League is brilliant – we meet each Friday, play skittles, have a few bevvies and lots of banter, and at the end of the season, we have... yes, you’ve guessed, fish and chips. The whole thing is organised by Keith Coombes and Dennis Hancock: thanks, boys, you do a great job.

This year, the trophy went to the ‘Woodies’ team for winning the Knockout cup. ‘Shoot the Cat’ and ‘HMG’ were joint-winners of the League; the top score, with 45 pins, was Aaron; and the wooden spoon went to Pam. Thanks go to all our barmen over the season and all those who helped out with the fish and chip supper, especially Keith’s long suffering wife, Mary.

It was great to see a new team, the ‘Unknowns’ in the League this year. The team was made up of lots of our Lady bowlers who were nearly all skittle ‘virgins’, and although they didn’t do too well, remaining firmly bottom of the League, they certainly added to the fun. Well done, girls, who knows – next year you may even win a game!
