This has been a week of mixed fortunes for Norwest: our Ladies claimed a very soggy six-point draw on Tuesday when they visited Wyrall Park in the Wild League.

On Thursday, another Wild League game, this time at home against Castle Cary, we only got four points but at least we didn’t get wet!

The Men started their week on Wednesday evening with a 13-3 win in the Mid-Somerset League when they welcomed local rivals, Prattens to our green. It was a pleasant, if somewhat chilly evening which made the pasties and beans very welcome after the game. On Saturday, both our A and B Teams in the County League had a 12-0 scoreline. Unfortunately, the B Team who were home to Purnell B lost their twelve points, unlike the A Team, who claimed their twelve when they played away to Alexandra Park A.

We played two mixed games: on Friday away to Weston, Bath in an MMSL game we won 10-2, while on Sunday, in a friendly against old rivals and friends from Alexandra Park, we lost. Even so, it was a great afternoon and though it was a bit damp, the atmosphere was warm and friendly. It was especially nice to see two young players, Charlie and Chloe, out on the green. Thanks to Moira for our delicious tea and Mark, our barman.

In the County pairs competition, Aaron teamed up with Sally from Purnell to beat Kath and Keith in their second-round game. They then went on to play a team from Stothert & Pitt on Sunday. This was an extremely tight game with a nail-biting finish, which saw Aaron and Sally win by just one shot to go through to Round Four.

In the County Two Fours competition our Men will be playing their Third-Round game on Sunday, 30th June, when they journey to Weston-super-Mare to meet the Men from Victoria Bowls Club. Good luck, lads.

Finally, a reminder that John Doughty’s funeral will take place on Monday, 1st July at 11 a.m. at the top chapel at Haycombe, Bath. It is requested that any members attending wear club shirts, blazers and greys. Any donations in memory of John should be given to the RUH Forever Friends Appeal.
