Last Tuesday was the first fixture of the season that Paulton Ladies were able to play.
They took on a strong team from Keynsham Ladies in a friendly and had to sit back and admire the excellent quality of the bowls produced. Paulton Ladies’ captain, Pat Stock, said: “We’re not too displeased with the game, as this has been good preparation for our first league game next week. Congratulations to Keynsham, they played well.”
Last Wednesday saw the men play a friendly at Bloomfield Bowls Club in Bath. Paulton managed a win on one rink, by a sizeable margin, but had to be happy with running the other three rinks close. Overall, a win for Bloomfield’s men, but, in the spirit of bowls, an excellent evening, thoroughly enjoyed, with many old acquaintances being renewed in the new season.
On Saturday, the annual Ladies versus Gents match took place for members at Paulton. The afternoon started with a spider for men and one for ladies – Colin Curtis winning the bottle of whisky and Shirley Meek a bottle of Irish Cream.
28 members took part including four new bowlers, which was good to see. A very good afternoon’s bowling was enjoyed by all, with the men winning overall 70 shots to 56. After the game there was an American Supper and a raffle with many prizes.
