The last couple of weeks have seen Paulton Bowls Club’s best period for results this season, for the Mixed and Ladies’ teams, whilst the Men continue to look for some success.
This last Sunday saw Paulton’s Mixed team play at home to Chew Stoke and produce a comfortable win, by 80 shots to 53. This gave Paulton ‘The Double’ over Chew Stoke, having beaten them earlier in the season in the Chew Valley.
Paulton’s Ladies started the period with defeat against Shepton Mallet, but bounced back with a morale-boosting win against local rivals Purnells, and then further victory against Wyrral Park. The season has improved for the Ladies, as it has gone on, with some notable performances from everyone.
Paulton’s Men, though, continue to look for an improvement in their situation. Another defeat in the County League has left them without a win this season, although the playing performances have been reasonably good. In every match they have picked up points, but cannot get over the winning line. The most recent defeat, last Saturday, was to Frome Selwood, who won by seven shots. Ironically, it was Paulton winning the most ends in the match, 35 to 28!
Club competitions are now well underway, with more entries this year than in previous seasons. This is mainly down to competition secretary, Dave Ball, and his wife Diane, encouraging more people to enter. The new bowlers at the club have the chance in the near future to play in their own club tournament and this should give them some good competitive grounding for the future.
The club continues to have its social evenings on Fridays, with many of the members enjoying a chance to have some food and a quiet drink, as well as a friendly game of in-house bowls.
