What a great week for the lads at Purnell Bowls Club, it started with a very good 12-4 win in the Midsomerset League on Wednesday against Prattens.
On Saturday, the A team travelled to Bloomfield and what a game they had against the bottom team in the league, who had not registered a win this season.
After just seven ends, one of Purnell rinks was 17-0 down, they did pull it back to lose by just nine shots, the other two rinks won by ten shots, collectively winning the game by one shot, with points of 10-2. The result puts the team in second place in the Premier League, two points behind Bath.
The B team had a very tricky game away to Alexandra, they came away winning by five shots, also winning on all three rinks, points a valuable 12-0.
At home the C team were up against Keynsham C and although losing on two rinks, they won on one rink by more shots than the other two rinks lost by, gaining an 8-4 match win.
On a glorious sunny morning on Sunday, it was a journey to Keynsham to play in the National Two Fours Competition. What a show the Purnell team put on, Jim Towells, Ken Crouch, John Mathews and Mike Talbot all had their best game of the season, playing against a strong Keynsham four, they completely outplayed their opponents, winning by twelve shots.
On the other rink it was a tighter affair, Terry Priddle, Paul Curtis, Den Skehan and Hugh Lorimer had to battle all the way to win by three shots, a great match win against a strong home team.
It’s another busy week for the men this week, away in the Somerset Turnball Cup to Chew Stoke on Tuesday, home to Norwest in the Midsomerset League on Wednesday, away to Bath on Friday in the National Top Club Competition, with the A,B and C teams all travelling away on Saturday.
On Saturday mornings throughout July anyone can come along to the green in Bristol Road Paulton, from 10 a.m. onwards, to give bowls a try, and it’s all free.
