Mendip finished their season in style with a victory over Jaspers. Off the back of a positive training session and with home advantage, Mendip started brightly, playing some excellent passing and moving hockey.

Both Mendip goals came in the first half from right wing, Emily Browning. For the opener, she showed a good striker’s instinct by deflecting a shot past the keeper to ensure Mendip went into the lead.

The Mendip attack was supported well by midfielders, Sally Stanford and Captain, Jackie Browning and the defence was strengthened by Grace Harding, who had a good game at right back.

Mendip’s second goal came during open play, where Browning showed great persistence in the D to eventually slot the ball into the goal after the visitors’ defence had tried to clear their lines.

The second half of the match was played out in a similar vein as the first, but Mendip were unable to find the back of the net again. Their defence was able to soak up any pressure from the visitors’ attack and this was partly due to the influence that left back, Cosima Burgess, had on the game. Her positional play was excellent and she was Mendip’s well deserved Player of the Match.
