After two weeks of Charity Floodlight Bowls, it is still not certain who will contest the final at Purnell Bowls Club this Friday at 6.30 p.m. Prattens, Frome and Purnell have all won two games, so it is down to the final games.
Last Sunday morning, it was Purnell's Mixed Triples Competition. On a lovely day, everyone enjoyed the games and it went down to the final game for the winners to be decided, with Diane Challenger's team of Carol Hansford and Bob White coming out on top. John Challenger, Ken Crouch and Reg Towler claimed the runners-up place by just one shot, losing just one game. All the players settled down to an American Supper at the end of the games. In the afternoon, Jan and Don Dart overcame Ann and Colin Toogood to win the Mixed Pairs Competition.
The next event for the charity is a 50s/60s dance at the Conygre Hall, Timsbury, on Saturday, 27th September at 8 p.m., dancing to the great sound of 'The Defibrillators'. It is a bring your own food and drink event, tickets from Trevor Francis on: 01761 413081.
There is but just a week left in the summer bowls calender, but there is still an important game for the Ladies of Purnell. This coming Sunday, it is the final of the County Fear Cup at Ashcombe, Weston-super-Mare, where they will come up against a very good team, Portishead British Legion. There is sure to be a big following from the club travelling to the seaside and everyone wishes the girls the very best of luck.
In a week, the indoor season will commence with league bowls throughout the day, but there are slots during the week for anyone who would like to try bowls. All you have to do is to ring Head Coach, Don Dart, on: 01761 471019 to book and it's free!
