Colliers Way Cycling Group have chosen the Avon Cycleway as a new focus for their monthly extended rides. This is a circuit around the city of Bristol, taking in the best of the countryside as well as several towns and villages around Bristol and Bath.

The trail was first launched in 1989 by Avon County Council, and was adopted in 2013 as part of the National Cycle Network. The circuit breaks up into six distinct sections, reflecting the varying landscape through which it passes.

The Cycle Group completed the first part of the route in November, starting from the River Avon near Saltford and following the River Chew to reach Chew Valley Lake, before returning to Bitton. This section was characterised by pretty stone villages, a dramatic stone viaduct and standing stones, as well as wonderful views.

Colliers Way Cycling Group meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays for fitness and leisure rides of twenty-to-thirty miles, usually starting from Radstock. There’s a different route and café each ride, always cycling on quiet country lanes. New members are always welcome and starter sessions are available for those who may not be quite ready for group rides.
