CAMERTON and Peasedown Croquet Club are holding a series of internal tournaments throughout the summer months.

These are for both Association Croquet and Golf Croquet and there are prestigious cups to be won on Final’s Day in September.

These tournaments are attractive to all members and are excellent for practicing skills and improving handicaps.

First off were competitions for Level Play in both doubles and singles. On both days the games were close fought and scores were very tight.

These games were played without consideration of handicaps and the higher handicapped players achieved some notable wins over their lower handicap opponents.

In Group A of the Level Play doubles six pairs all played each other in one ‘best of 13 hoops’ game. There were some very close matches, six of which ended 7-6 and only four with a wider result than 7-5.

Colin Britt and Si Dunk took four wins, only losing to Jono Flatt and Patrick Knight. Colin and Si will progress to the final in September.

There were three pairs with three wins, with Jill Shaw and Paul Dix edging into second place on net hoops.

Two days later groups C and D of the Level Play singles competition played their matches, and results on this day were also very close. Indeed several of these Level Play games did not go as might have been expected.

In Group C, Colin Britt (H0) lost to Paul Dix (H7) although at the end of the day, each being on two wins, Paul lost out to Colin on net hoops overall. Colin progressed to the semi-final played later that day.

In Group D, Peter Buchanan (H9) defeated Ann Munton (H6); he also topped the group with two wins and a better net hoops score than Ann.

In the play-off between the two groups, Colin defeated Peter 7-2 to progress to finals day in September.
