THE Seniors section of Fosseway Golf Club maintained their good start to their first season in the Avalon Seniors League with an impressive 3.5-1.5 home success against Long Sutton B.

Seniors secretary Alan Jones and competition secretary Chris Appleton enjoyed the most emphatic success with a 7&6 victory. Skipper Andy Flagg again led from the front combining with Rob Wells to win 5&4, while Malcolm Emery and Shaun Goodwin were 2&1 victors. Paul Trigg and Paul Ellis halved their match while Martyn Cuer and Phil Winsley lost a close encounter 2&1.

There was an identical result in the latest social match at home to Kingweston. The married couple Steve and Pauline Brixey stole the headlines in this fixture winning their game 8&6. Seniors social match captain Frank Dance and Appleton came out on top 2&1, a result matched by Trigg and Wells. Winsley and Noel Chatfield ended their contest all square but Emery and Jones finished two down.

In the week of the latest club competition for the Broadway and Smith Cup, members were saddened to hear of the passing of life member and joint trophy sponsor Geoff Broadway. Geoff had been a generous supporter of the golf club and a very popular member of the Seniors. The club send their sincere condolences to the family.

The competition also known as the Gruesomes resulted in an emphatic win for Winsley and Howard Nowell who came in with a nett 67. Chris Champion and Mike Cole were four shots behind in second place with Mike Ricketts and Pauline Brixey third with a nett 73.
