Yes, good news from Norwest Bowls Club, our babies have flown! Doing their bit for the anti-smoking campaign, a pair of blue tits set up home in the cigarette stubber box at Norwest.

A quickly-erected sign warned smokers of their presence, thereby preventing a nasty case of arson and a homeless family! However, all's well that ends well and the babies have now flown and for those smokers who didn't manage to quit, the stubbing-out box is once again operational.

On the bowls front, things also seem to be on the up at Norwest. After the really bad results of the previous week, we managed to pull out the stops and came away with three wins. The Ladies were the first to win when they welcomed Paulton Ladies for a Wild League game on Tuesday afternoon.

This was followed on Wednesday with a not-so-good result for the Men, when they lost their MSL game 14–2 at Glastonbury against Wyrall Park. Luckily, the tables were turned when, on Thursday, they welcomed Prattens to our green for a friendly. It was an overcast afternoon and they had a few drops of rain at the start of the afternoon, but managed to avoid the heavy rain which fell on much of the surrounding area. Overall, it was a great game with lots of banter between the two local rivals, resulting in a win for Norwest. Friday saw a mixed team gather at Stothert and Pitt's green for a mixed Mid-Somerset League game. These games are always great fun to play and the fact that Norwest won 10–2 was an added bonus.

On Saturday, our two Men's teams had mixed results in their County League East, Division One games. The A team played away against Frome Selwood and had a splendid 12–0 victory, winning by 35 shots. However, our B team, who were at home to Paulton Bowls Club, only managed to claim two points.

Our 'away day' to Southbourne on Sunday, 1st June was a brilliant success, with everyone enjoying it tremendously. Although Norwest lost, it was only by one shot and this we put down to home advantage! The day was rounded off with a few drinks in the bar while reliving the high spots of the game, the brilliant shots from Norwest bowlers and all those lucky wicks which the opposition had!
