Last week was a busy week for Midsomer Norton Rugby Club. The Club played last Wednesday evening in the Final of the Bath Combination Cup on the Recreation Ground and then hosted the last league game of the season against fifth-placed Newent in the league.

There was a large crowd of supporters at the Bath Rec to greet the team, who hoped to put their league woes behind them. From the kick-off, the pack set about controlling possession and field position. This they did, well up to the hour mark, with second row Tom Fear and Gimson scoring tries. But as the game ran in the slick, the Chippenham backs started to score points, taking the game away from Norton.

With the game over, more insult was inflicted on the team when they found that bar had been closed and they were unable to drown their sorrows – and the winners, Chippenham, were also unable to celebrate the win!
