PAULTON Rovers beat Weston super Mare 5-2 in a pulsating home game in the Premier Division of the Western Counties Floodlit Youth Football League.

Rovers went ahead inside the first minute as Alfie Kelleher burst down the left and his low cross was turned by Luke Mavridis. It was 2-0 as Paulton scored again in the 4th minute, this time an attack down the right saw a cross from Alistair Wach driven into the net by Jack Breton.

It was all Rovers with Weston having to defend stoutly. However, in the 6th minute Weston attacked with several home players out of position. Ted Milne’s cross from the right was parried out by Paulton keeper Ben Rogers only for Oliver Hayward to shoot home.

Paulton were moving the ball around crisply and it was no surprise when they added to the total on 17 minutes. Harry Collins saw his shot blocked but the ball fell to Mavridis to fire past Dan Pashley.

Rovers defence led by captain Etienne Norman were defying the Weston attacks and on 24 minute Paulton grabbed a fourth as, following a corner Sean Markey found Norman who slid the ball into the net. Five minutes later it was five as Markey interchanged passes with Mavridis and Harvey Wroe to race on and slip the ball past Pashley.

Weston were not to be outdone as, in the 31st minute, Milne crossed for Harry Knight to head home to reduce the arrears.

The second half was largely Paulton with half chances to Mavridis, Breton and subs Roman Green and Taylor Willis. Then Markey tried a speculative effort that just missed the target. Minutes later he hit a volley from 25 yards that clipped the Weston crossbar.

The Seasiders didn’t give up and sub Isna Malalon showed several excellent tackles while keeper Pashley made several comfortable saves.
