BUILDBASE FA TROPHY Second Qualifying Round

BEDFONT SPORTS 0 v 5 PAULTON ROVERS

After a seven hour plus round trip, Paulton progressed under the flight path of Heathrow Airport at Bedfont Sports to seal a trip in the Third Qualifying Round away at Southampton-based Sholing on Saturday.

Rovers got off to a flying start, scoring on four minutes as Brad Abraham fed Ed Butcher, breaking down the left, and his cross was slotted home by Ben Bament.

Bedfont had a great chance on eleven minutes as Imran Ulche’s through ball found Nathan Wood only for keeper, Joe Perry, to pull off a fine save.

On fourteen minutes, John Rendell’s men made it 2-0 as Jake Sloggett intercepted in his own half, ran fifty yards before laying off to Dave Sims-Burgess to glide the ball over the onrushing Bedfont keeper, Jimmy Kyriratis.

Kyriratis made a string of fine saves from Butcher, Bament, Sloggett and Butcher, as Rovers, playing some slick football, applied pressure.

On the stroke of half-time, with a seemingly innocuous tackle, ’The Eagles’ lost left back, Adrian Tache, with a serious injury.

The second half was four minutes old when Paulton made it 3-0. Butcher picked the ball up on the half-way line, sped past his full-back to hit home a thunderous low drive that Kyriratis got a hand to.

The hosts had a great chance to pull a goal back after 54 minutes, as Ezekiel Bademosi got around the back of the Rovers defence and as Perry narrowed the angle, the shot missed the target.

Kyriratis prevented several Paulton shots, with one from Ben Withey swerving, bringing an excellent save and Cam Shorney twice testing the keeper.

Abraham was fouled on the edge of the box with five minutes left and Butcher drove a firm free kick, albeit with a slight deflection.

In added time Paulton completed the rout as Butcher broke down the left and his low cross was turned into the net by Bament to make it 5-0.
