WESTFIELD A U11s 5 TIMSBURY ATHLETIC U11s 4

It was Timsbury Under-11s’ first match back from our Christmas holidays, and we were all huddled together, arms linked, having our team talk when our super coach asked if we were ready.

“Yes!” we all cheered. “I can’t hear you, are you ready?” our Coach asked louder. “YESSSS!” we all shouted in unison, high-fiving each other as we walked on to the pitch.

The game began with a touch from Westfield who, after a few minutes, managed to get the ball into our half. I intercepted it and ran as fast as the wind, from one end of the pitch to the other.

In the next twenty minutes we stood strong, as both teams were evenly matched, but then it came! In the 23rd minute, Finley fired the ball over the top of the Westfield goalie to score the first goal of the match. We all jumped with excitement.

Tom, our goalkeeper, impressed with some super saves, but Westfield eventually managed to equalise the score with a goal of their own. The whole team showed pure commitment as they continued on, but the half-time whistle came.

Finley gave the first touch of the second half and with a swift run from myself and some skill from our super defender, George. Jack put the ball in the back of the net to give us our second goal of the game.

We all battled on, as did Westfield, and the score became 2-2. Seventeen minutes later, Timsbury were awarded a penalty, and Billy scored perfectly! We were winning again. However, Westfield managed to score two more goals to make the score 5-3.

In the 25th minute of the second half, we had a corner, and I headed the ball to Callum, who volleyed the ball straight into the back of the net! The score became 5-4. Excellent football continued to be played, with some great defence from Morgan, Oakley and Gerrard. Then the final whistle came.

Although we did not technically win, for me and my team, the match was a victory. This is only our first season together at TAFC, and we have shown that we play

football to the same standard as teams like Westfield A, who have been together for many years. As a team we will only get stronger, and the future is definitely blue!

Manager, Adam Bean, added, “I was impressed with our side’s performance, from kick-off. Westfield A are one of the best teams around in this age group, so to lose 5-4 was an outstanding result. Very happy is an understatement.

“I would like to thank our sponsors, Nicky Brice and Mike Brice, Our Plaice Fish and Chip Shop, Timsbury, for their continued support and sponsorship.”
