Terry Phillips organised an afternoon of 'Aussie Pairs' and members entered into the spirit with their dress and props, finishing off the evening with a traditional Barbie. Even the weather was worthy of Australia! The winning pair were Julie Macfarlane and Janet Andrews, with Sheila Davis and Stewart Macfarlane runners-up.
After the meal, Bob Jenner gave a demonstration on how to play the didgeridoo and Carole accompanied him on the clap sticks. As the didgeridoo was decorated with an engraving of a platypus, they also explained the legend of how the platypus came into being.
The previous Sunday was also a fun day when the Admiral, aka Alec Parkin, challenged the President, Clive Norman. Fifty members took part in the afternoon match and then, together with a few more non-bowlers, making 57 in total, enjoyed a delicious roast meal.
The spider, raffle and donations raised £200 for the defibrillator fund, which has now reached its target.
The serious bowling is also going well with both the Ladies and Men lying second in the NSL and MSL respectively.
The Men are climbing up the County League and the Ladies are due to play Bristol in the semi-final of the Fear Plate on 24th August.
