The Seniors section of Fosseway Golf Club made a fine start to their summer of social matches with a 4.5-1.5 win at home to Whitley.

It was an encouraging beginning for new Seniors captain Frank Dance even if his contest alongside Competition Secretary Chris Appleton didn’t go quite the way they would have liked with a 6&5 defeat against an inspired high handicapper.

Harold Lidbitter and Frank Reeves halved their match but otherwise there were comfortable victories all the way. Alan White and Cyril Blacker and Allen Cheney and Malcolm Tucker both won their games 6&4 , Martyn Cuer and Mike Weeks came out on top 5&3 while Mike Ricketts and Graham Edgell were 4&2 winners.

There was some consolation for Dance in the Continuforms Trophy. In the three ball Texas Scramble he joined up with Cheney and Phil Winsley to win the event with a nett 56. One shot behind came John Williams, Alan Jones and Ricketts with Rex Wyatt, Edgell and White third with a nett 58.
