The trophy competitions for the Farrington Park Ladies Section keep coming thick and fast.

The weather was perfect and the ladies responded with 28 of the 39 competitors scoring over 30 points. The Coppers Cup was won by the in-form Kay Clarke. Kay is enjoying one of her best seasons for many years and her total of 37 points was two clear of second placed Marilyn Cass. Third place went to Kath Cox with 34 points beating Peggy Edwards on countback.

Five 2 spot birdies were recorded over four different par 3 holes in the Douglas Cup competition : Jane Ball (5th), Jayne Brown (8th), June Symonds and Pauline Young (10th) and Margaret Seery (15th).

Scoring results for this competition were very close. Rosi Brown secured third place on countback from Sandra Hares and Jane Ball after all three ladies scored 37 points. Margaret Seery scored 38 points for second place, but the winner of the Douglas Cup with a fine 39 points was June Symonds.

The previous week’s competition had been a Four Ball Betterball for the Jackman Trophy held in memory of founder member, Dorothy Jackman. Eighteen pairs competed on a day which threatened downpours of rain which never materialised much to the players’ relief.

There was good scoring from the teams with seven pairs scoring more than 40 points apiece. Three teams scored 42 points and countback separated them, giving third place to Lesley Stone and Bridget Rylance ahead of Lally Gibson and Carol King with Janet Mahoney and Denise Baker taking fifth place.

The experienced pairing of Gail Proctor and Jackie Walker had two birdies at the 14th and 18th holes to help towards their score of 44 points, but even this was not enough and they had to settle for second place.

Sandra Hares and Corinne Durbin had a very good score of 46 points to win the Jackman Trophy. Corinne dedicated the win to Dorothy Jackman.

Dorothy had lent a spare set of her golf clubs to Corinne when she first started playing golf and Dorothy would no doubt have been proud to see her kind gesture repaid. Jane Ball
