The keenly awaited Ladies Past Captains versus the Club Past Captains match took place in fine weather.
Excellent drives from the first tee added up to high expectations, but who would maintain their form and win through? Philip Slater graciously awarded the Shore Trophy to Jill Bocquet, Captain of the Ladies Past Captains, commenting on the high standard of golf and etiquette seen throughout the day. A convivial meal concluded the event.
Phil Leonard has been celebrating not one, but two, holes-in-one in the last month. Using a five iron on the seventh hole, he landed on the green and the ball found the hole. He used a five iron on the tenth hole a couple of weeks later and again landed on the green and the ball obligingly found the hole. Well done!
Wells Seniors lost 5–2 away to Farrington, with David Gibbon and Terry Pearce and Graham Bingham and John Watson being the successful pairings. The Ladies’ Palmer Cup was won in fine style by Kathy Lane, with a clear lead of three points on nett 74, over second placed Sue Wells and third placed Tina Davies, who both had nett 77.
