THE top news story from Mendip Golf Club last week was the performance of Aimee Sawyer and Ellen Reakes who have just won the Bristol and District Ladies Scratch Foursomes KO event. Having fought through several rounds they won the final held at Wells against a pairing from Weston 6/5. It is believed that Mendip last won this event as far back as 1991. Well done Ladies. The Pro Shop Stablefords are proving very popular with 105 competitors in last weekend's event. Div 1 was won by James White with a score of 42 points with Sam Brown 2nd with 38 after count back from Kevin Brimble. Div 2 was won by Steve Coles with a score of 42, Steve Rushton was 2nd with 41 and Ryan Davis was 3rd with 40 after count back.

Div 3 saw the best score of the day with Mark George carding a fine 45, with Lewis Gumbleton 2nd with 41 after count back from Pete Hoddinott. The Cyder Cup at Mendip saw teams of six competing captained by the men’s, ladies, seniors and juniors captains - an excellent event which brings all sections of the club together.

The Juniors were leading until late on until the men’s section brought home by Kevin Brimble and Craig Robertson, who both scored 40 points, just pipped them and therefore retained the trophy for the third year in a row. The Ladies finished a creditable third and the Seniors came in fourth. The Ladies end of season mix up Bowmaker event saw a win for Fran Davies/Ann Padley/Penny Oliver/Min Woodward with a score of 79 points. In 2nd place came Lynne Vowles/Wendy Collins/Susan Fordham/Sandra Hares with 74 point and Sue Needham/Libby Bellew/Carol King/Bridget Rylance were 3rd with 71 points after count back. Ladies captain Louise Scott and men’s captain Jack Hayes have completed their series of challenges and the pairing to have the best score against them were the father and daughter pairing of Ben and Connie Cox who won the trophy with a fine score of +2. The Madina Trophy ( Ladies Captain & Vice Captain) series of challenges was won by Gina Howard and Allison Rumming and the Rafiki Trophy (Pro & Lady Captain) challenges was won by Victoria Ham & Susy Rudkin. The Vyvyan Clare Trophy saw a win for Lyn Jone, well done Lyn, with Div 1 being won by Aimee Sawyer and Div 2 by Ann Padley. The Mixed team played their final match of the season when visiting Knowle. It was a very close run affair with Mendip just going down 3.5 - 4.5. Wins came from Rob & Sue Needham, Martin & Wendy Collins and Clive Copp and Pippa Brown, with the half gained by David & Lillian Peel. Meanwhile, the final of the Seniors Harry Bowles KO has now taken place, appropriately between two players in very good form this season, with the winner being Tony Scott who edged out Tony Taylor by a single hole. Well done to both Tonys.

The Seniors enjoyed a resounding 5-1 win over Clevedon in an inter-club match with wins from Bryan Lewis/Simon Atkinson, Paul Godwin/Alan Edwards, Paul Woood/Martin Sutherland, Roland Greenway/David Judge and Antony George/Peter Rummings.
