There were two familiar faces in the winners’ enclosure when the Senior’s section of Fosseway Golf Club held its April Medal competition, with one welcome newcomer.

Noel Chatfield has recently rejoined the Seniors’ section and he was only beaten into second place on count-back, after carding a nett-63. He was edged out by fellow 28-handicapper, Mike Weeks, who has had a marvellous run. A strong back nine was enough to earn Cyril Blacker third place with a nett-64.

The social team notched up its first win of the season with a 4–2 home success against Minchinhampton. John Bendle and Terry Button put the traumas of the previous week behind them to run out the most convincing winners with a 4&3 success. Blacker and Allen Cheney won 3&1 and there were 2&1 successes for Martyn Cuer and Barry Dugmore and Weeks and Nick Foxwell. Captain Gerry Rowell and Brian Woodruff lost 2&1, and Frank Reeves and Malcolm Tucker finished one-down.

Members of the Seniors section were sad to hear of the death of John Ticehurst, who had travelled from Bradford-on-Avon for many years to play his golf at Fosseway. Ill health had limited his appearances at the club for the last couple of years, but previously to that the ardent Arsenal fan had rarely missed a club event and he will be much missed.
