There was a close finish to the Mark Bridges Cup in the Seniors’ section of Fosseway Golf Club, with Bob Smith taking first place in the Murphy’s Stableford event with +45. Malcolm Tucker was one point behind with +44 with Terry Button third on +41.

There was better luck for Tucker in the Bill Lester Texas Scramble when he joined up with Doug Lane to claim victory with a nett 62. It needed countback to deny Roger Knowles and Brian Phelps who also scored 62. Third place went to the instigator of the competition, Bill Lester with his partner, Pat Cray, who together recorded 63 to nudge out on countback Alan Jones and George Underwood.

Knowles and Jones soon put their disappointments behind them in the Committee Cup coming first by a clear five shots with a nett 56. Four pairings finished with nett 61s, but after countback Nick Foxwell and Cyril Blacker came second with Underwood and Cray third. Malcolm Tucker
