RSPCA Inspector, Ian Burns, visited Farrington Park Golf Club after Ladies’ Thursday morning on 23rd November, to receive a cheque for £2,927.49 from last year’s Ladies’ Captain, Pauline Young.

The RSPCA was Pauline’s chosen charity, as the welfare of animals is close to her heart. Pauline once again thanked the Ladies’ Section for their amazing generosity in supporting her chosen charity.

The amount, that was just short of £3,000, was one of the highest ever raised by the Ladies’ Section. Inspector Burns was thrilled to receive so much money for the charity, and said it is a phenomenal amount of money to raise.

Twelve teams of three ladies took part in a Stableford Waltz competition on 23rd November. Playing off full-handicap, each team member had a contribution to make to the final team score.

One best score counted on the first hole, two best scores counted on the second hole, all three scores counted on the third hole, before repeating the process with the fourth hole, and so on.

What the great Johann Strauss would have thought of his waltz rhythm being hi-jacked for a golf format is, fortunately, not on record. Lovely sunshine brightened the day, but a few heavy showers and a very stiff, gusting wind meant that few teams felt they were waltzing towards a particularly good score.

However, at the end, four points separated and countback was needed to decide the top four teams. Well done to everyone for some creditable scores in testing conditions.

Farrington Seniors arrived for the Wednesday Bowmaker Competition with winds of 40 mph already blowing. So many brave three-balls started the battle with the occasional help from a downwind hole. But despite the conditions, some good scoring was achieved.

The top four teams were pretty close, with in fourth place the trio of Alan Elkington, David Brown and Steve Ball, on 74 points, losing on countback to Barry Hall, Kevin Gould and Eddie Cheasley, in third. Second place went to Steve Symonds, birthday boy, Dave Elliott, and Graham Robinson, on 75 points. But the trio to master the conditions in first place, and clear winners, with 78 points, were Colin Robinson, Ray Parker and Rob Porter.

With the tees about to be moved to their winter positions, a great test was created for the Saturday Stableford golfers. In Division One, it was Matt Lefeuvre at the top, with 38 points, with two players on 36 points in second and third, and David Morgan winning on countback from Mark Crook.

It was all tight at the top in Division Two, with three players on 36 points, with David Glew taking first place followed by Des Deane and Nick Hemming on countback.

In Autumn sunshine, it was a good day at the office in Division One from Andy Penney on 39 points in top spot, followed closely in second by Tom Snelling, on 38 points, and third place to Steve Coles, on 35 points.

In Division Two, three players were all on 35 points, with Lee Matthews taking top spot on countback from Jack Cronin and Jon Cox, respectively.
