Farrington Park held its Men’s Club Championship competition last weekend; 68 golfers played the Duchy course in top condition with fast greens testing the players’ skills.
On the first day, some good scoring was achieved from Lee Bruton and Jack Broadway, both players returning gross-80 scores. Chris Shanks and Jack Vowell also had “a good day at the office”, with gross scores of 79. However, the early leaders were Mark Adams (gross-78) and Josh Summers (gross-77), and the leader by two shots was Craig Adams with a gross-75.
The second day’s weather conditions were similar to the previous day; sunny intervals and a brisk wind, which tested the players’ abilities. Alongside the Club Championship Trophy, a nett cup – the Brimble Trophy – can be won for the player with the best nett score over the two days.
The quality of golf on Day Two was of the highest order; both Tom Snelling and Jack Vowell continued their good form, scoring a gross-75. Lee Bruton improved on his Day One score with a gross-74 on Day Two. The top round of the day came from Max Stone Champion, Danny Farnen with a gross-73. A big crowd awaited the final group of the day, including overnight leader Craig Adams, who returned to the clubhouse with a gross-77.
Men’s Club Captain, Gary Prater, announced the results to the waiting competitors; the winner of the Brimble Trophy for the best nett score over the two days was Tom Snelling, with a total score of 143 nett. The top three in the Club Championship were Jack Vowell in third place, beaten to second place by Lee Bruton on countback after both scored a total of 154 gross. The Men’s Club Champion of the Year was Craig Adams with a total of 152 gross, the winner by two shots.
