Farrington Park continue to challenge for promotion to the top tier after victory over Taunton & Pickeridge Stags in the latest Avalon League match.
After the third home game in as many weeks, the team played well in a tough match and added another eight points from a slender win. Two matches were won, two halved and one lost.
The contest was played in bright sunshine at last, but a 20mph wind ensured testing conditions. Mark Crook and Gary Prater were first out and in a high quality game gained a valuable half. Dave Jewell and Matt LeFeuvre lost 2&1. Steve Longden and Nick Russell fought another halved game.
Paul Thomas and Tom Snelling were soon in control, but missed chances until they secured a 3&1 win. Mark and Guy Adams confirmed the team win with a 2&1 victory.
Phil Howells won Division 1 of the Saturday Stableford with 40 points. He beat Liam Copp on countback while Kris Broadway was third on 39. Steve Blackwell on 37 points beat Steve Harmer into second place on countback in Division 2 with Ray Guthrie in third on 36.
The course was in good condition, although summer temperatures have still to arrive. Nick Farrar gained a clear advantage in Division 3 with 36 points, four better than Pete Court, who beat Ian Jones into third on countback.
In the following day’s Sunday Stableford, played in changeable conditions with the threat of rain, Lee Sparkes took charge of Division 1 with 38 points, followed by Mark Chandler on 31 and Dave Harvey, third on 29.
In-form Tony Guthrie won Division 2 with 41 points, with Ben Park in second on 34 points beating Andrew Robinson on countback.
