Jo Carter is a name that just keeps coming up art Farrington Park. Jo is really on top form at the moment, her Midas touch with the golf club is earning her many wins or top finishes in Ladies’ Competitions of late.
So, it came as no surprise when Jo walked away with the Thomas Cup last weekend. The Thomas Cup is a 36 hole Stableford competition held over two days.
Jo led the field after a sunny Day One, with an amazing 43 points, followed in second place by Rosi Brown, with 39 points and Dawn Stacey, with 38 points. On Day Two, June Symonds mounted a challenge by carding an excellent 42 points, on a day with many heavy showers.
In second place on Day Two was the young junior, Frankie Dezis, with 39 points and third was Jo Carter, with 38 points. The final competition result was: first, Jo Carter, with a combined total of 81 points, second, June Symonds, with 78 points and third, Frankie Dezis, with 75 points.
Nearest the Pin on Day One: Liz Thomas, fifth. Jo Carter, tenth. Day Two: Abby Gray, eighth and Sue Forshaw, fifteenth. Two spots were achieved by June Symonds, Jackie Walker, Pauline Brixey and Jo Carter with two.
Jackie Walker and Angela Hudd advanced to the third round of the Somerset County Ladies’ Centenary Plate by beating Cricket St Thomas at Taunton and Pickeridge Golf Club by 2&1. Jackie and Angela will now face Orchardleigh Ladies at Burnham and Berrow.
Ladies’ Morning on the 1st June was a glorious early summer’s day and a large field of 43 ladies took advantage of the perfect golfing weather. Pristine greens and immaculate fairways created golfing heaven and Sue Stilwell, one of the early starters, took advantage of such conditions by carding 39 stableford points.
Although there were many ladies coming in with competitive cards, Sue’s score proved to be a little too good and earned her first place. In second place was Tracey Watts, with 38 points on countback, in third, Jo Carter also with 38 points. In fourth place was Corrina Bates, with 37 points on countback and fifth was Liz Thomas also with 37 points.
Juniors
The Junior League season kicked off on April 30th with an excellent 3–2 win at home against Clevedon with wins from Alex Bendall, Abby and Jackson. Then on May 21st, the team of Alex Bendall, Abby, Jackson, Jake, Frankie and Caleb travelled to Chipping Sodbury for the league knock-out, in Hi/Lo Foursomes format. Despite being defeated 2–1, the team can be rightly proud of themselves, with all three games concluding on the eighteenth green. Frankie and Caleb made their team débuts but you would never have known! Both showed nerves of steel on the greens, with Caleb (paired with Jackson) sinking a 20ft birdie putt to win their game.
Seniors
With a prolonged dry spell of weather still continuing, the Seniors of Farrington Park gathered for the annual playing of the Diamond Jubilee Cup. With the course in excellent condition and the greens running true and quick, scoring was very competitive. The competition is played in three divisions, with the winner scoring the best net medal round. Steve Cope was victorious, winning on countback from Steve Ball, both players recording nett 68s.

Walking 27.7 miles from Weston-super-Mare FC to Bristol City FC and then onto Bristol Rovers FC.
