Pauline Young, Farrington Park’s new Lady Captain, made a wonderful start to her year in office by winning the AGM Salver, a Qualifying Stableford Competition.

Good scores were achieved on a chilly day that felt more like winter golf and Pauline carded 38 points, two more than Claire Salter, with Maureen Charlton beating Margaret Seery into third place on countback after both recorded 35 points.

After golf, the Ladies’ AGM followed in the evening.

Outgoing Captain, Bobby Appleby, who was applauded for a very successful year, said it had been a privilege to encourage, support and work for the Farrington Park Ladies.

Incoming Captain, Pauline, presented Bobby with flowers and generous gifts from the very appreciative Ladies’ section.

Seniors

The Four Ball Better Ball was played in autumn sunshine and the low early morning sun caused players to keep an eye on where their golf ball had gone. But good scoring was attained by many pairs.

Pete Maule continued his recent form and returned 46 points with partner, Alan Skivington, to take first place. Chris Standen and Steve Mitchell scored 45 followed by Mike Ashwin and Mike Rawlings on 42, who beat Pete Cains and Ray Parker into third spot on countback. Other scores: Bob McKeegan-Brown/Roger Stone, 41, Colin Robinson/Ian Clement, 40.

Nearest the pins: fifth Chris Liberty, eighth Rob Chappell, fifteenth Terry Thatcher. Rob Chappell was nearest the pin in two at the fourteenth.

Men

Chris Grew won the full member’s trophy, one of the oldest competitions at the club, in good conditions with some great scoring achieved. His winning total was 91–64. Alex Bendall produced outstanding golf to finish runner-up on 79–68 with Dave Teal, in third, with 83–69.
