Mendip Golf Club held their first qualifying competition, the March Mid-Week Tankard, attracting a good early season entry and resulting in some good handicap-reducing scores.
Winning Division One with 39 points was Alisdair Easton, closely followed by Troy Chivers, with 38 and George Morgan, with 37. The scoring was not so strong in Division Two, with John Padfield winning with 34, followed by Michael Treasure with 32 and Clive Mays, with 29. Excellent scoring in Division Three saw Paul Mansfield winning with 41, followed by Richard Froggatt with 40 and James Boyce with 37.
Also at Mendip, the men held a three person bowmaker event. In third place, with 72 points and losing out on countback were the low handicap team of Tom Small, Ben Cox and Tom Lowe, whose combined handicaps totalled 8! In second place were Simon Jefferies, Trevor Messenger and M. Treasure, but winning with 81 points were Malcolm Srawley, Martin Honeybun and Tom Chapman.
The Ladies held a yellow ball bowmaker event. This was easily won by the very strong team of Jo Espley, Jenney Merrett and Linda Brobson, with 119 points. Second place was hard fought for, with the high handicap team of Wendy Norman, Eileen Masters and Elaine Richardson scoring 102 points, beating on countback Fran Davies, Marian Speed and Karen Cookson. The Veterans Division in the Seniors Competition was won by Michael Clark, with 34 points and he was followed by Alan Evans-Jones, with 32, beating on countback Colin Clifton.
