THIS year has seen the Seniors section of Fosseway Golf Club unbeatable in both league and social encounters on their own course - and their latest success saw them whitewash Tickenham 6-0.

Mike Cole and Pete Young gave the most eye catching, performance winning 7&6 and there were impressive wins for Alan Jones and Paul Ellis and Martyn Cuer and Phil Winsley who each won 5&4. Rob Wells and Andy Flagg and Mike Weeks and Paul Trigg triumphed 3&2 while Chris Appleton and John Cooper finished one up.

At the end of the match the visiting captain Roger Jack presented the Tickenham/Fosseway Cup to the home acting captain Alan Jones following his team’s impressive victory.

The league side have not surprisingly found it harder going away from home but they put up a good showing away to Long Sutton B, before eventually losing narrowly 3-2. Trigg and Cuer achieved Fosseway’s one success in the match, winning 2&1 but there were halves from Appleton and Gary Wilcox and Roger Parfitt and John Fuller who were all involved in very close matches. Captain Flagg and Allen Cheney were beaten 4&3 and Malcolm Emery and Shaun Goodwin went down 3&2.

There was a remarkably close finish in the September medal event with no fewer than five players scoring a nett 68 in an enthalling competition.

In Division 1 the top three all had 68 but after countback Phil Winsley came in first, Pat Cray was second and Anthony Gregory third. In Division 2 Bob Townsend and Noel Chatfield also had nett 68s with the former winning on countback. Rob Wells and Alan Jones each had a nett 70 with Wells just gaining third place, again on countback.
