The Stan Brown Cup was almost too close to call in the Seniors’ section of Fosseway Golf Club; with Gerry Rowell and Martin Cuer eventually prevailing with a nett score of sixty in the Four Ball Better Ball competition.
One shot behind came Mike Ricketts and Arthur Bellinger, who finished ahead of Terry Button and Nick Foxwell on countback. Countback was also needed to decide the Colin Eaton Three Club competition. Graham Edgell and the in-form Ricketts both finished with a nett 63, but Edgell took the honours. Barry Dugmore was third with a nett 66.
After months of competition, Bill Lester has emerged as the winner of the Winter League. In the final, he beat Brian Phelps 6&4. In the play-off for third place, Rowell beat Malcolm Tucker 3&2.
