There were some close finishes in both the November and December medal competitions in the Seniors section of Fosseway Golf Club.
Two of the lowest handicappers amongst the seniors, vice-captain Martyn Cuer and Alan White, finished at the top in the November event with nett scores of 61. Cuer claimed the medal on countback while Chris Shellard was one shot behind in third place.
The December Christmas medal saw members each bringing a present and it was another low handicapper, Pat Cray, who earned the right to choose the first gift as well as the monthly medal with a nett score of 63.
Jack Curtis was one shot further back, beating the appropriately named Howard Nowell again on countback.
At the close, flowers were presented to all the ladies who have supported the Seniors over the year.
Apart from a few winter league matches, which have still to be played, this brings to a close the 2019 competitions for the Seniors. Thanks go to the groundstaff for all their work with the greens and looking as good as they have ever been.
Despite being unable to play in the medal competitions, Pete Fitch has overseen the monthly events in his usual efficient manner but he has decided to stand down in 2020, thanks go to him for all his efforts. Doug Lane, in his first season at the club, has taken over the reins from long-standing competition secretary, Brian Phelps, and members are grateful to both for their contributions.
Additional thanks to hard-working captain, Gerry Rowell who is about to embark on another term of office. Also, to treasurer Geoff Hallett, general secretary Alan Jones and Fixture secretary Howard Nowell.
