THE sixth leg of the Order of Merit was played at Mendip Golf Club, with 141 players competing for the Stephenson Cup.
In a tight leaderboard, the winner was Glynn Haddock with 42 points, closely followed by James Pitchell with 41 and Kevin Dundar on 40 points. No less than 22 players played to or beat 36 points, tantamount to how well the course is playing.
The Senior Men’s Open Bowmaker attracted a field of 93 seniors, enjoying the course in excellent order. The winners, with a brilliant 84 points, were home player Steve Davis, with Mike Metcalfe and Robert Hardy. Runners up were Paul Apfelstedt, Mike Tout & Shaun Palmer on 76 points.
A huge thank you to everyone who was able to join Seniors Captain, Paul Godwin, at Lyme Regis for his Senior Captain's Away Day. It was very rewarding to have 52 representing The Mendip on a beautiful sunny day, on a fabulous course with stunning views of the Jurassic coastline. Once again, the team at Lyme did a fantastic job in looking after the players on a very hot day.

The ladies Alliance B team played away at Weston-Super-Mare on Friday 3rd July. The result was Weston 8 points and Mendip 6 points.
A fine win away from home by the Ladies Friendly team at Wedmore, with a victory by 3-2.
Jenny Ahlberg and Linda Papadopoullos played the fifth round of the Daily Mail Foursomes against Isle of Wedmore and were victorious with massive 6% win! Onto the 6th round they go!
The ladies Rogers Cup team lost their quarter final match to Burnham and Berrow at Tall Pines. They fielded low handicappers and Mendip found it tough despite receiving shots. It was a close with three matches reaching the 18th.
The Juniors had a tough time in the Somerset Junior Knockout quarter final, losing 3-0 at home to a very strong Wells team.
The Avalon C team have had a busy time lately with three matches in quick succession. They lost to Worlebury away 3.5 – 1.5. At home, they beat Taunton & Pickeridge 4.5 – 0.5 and away to Stockwood Vale they lost 4 – 1. Thanks to all players who stepped in to play.
The mixed friendly team went to Tidworth for their match and while everyone enjoyed it and the Tidworth team were very welcoming, they appeared to have put out some of their best players against Mendip, running out 4 – 3 winners in a closely fought match.
On a very hot day with temperatures feeling like 33 degrees, the ladies ICL team played their return match at Wells. The team captains agreed that if any players felt they couldn’t continue in the heat, then they could retire by mutual agreement. Several matches went the distance of 18 holes but a couple of matches ended early when players found the heat too much. Final score in Mendip’s favour 4.5 to 2.5
The Scratch team visited Oake Manor and put up a great fight to come away with a 2-2 draw. Special mention for Jack Vowell - he was -6 with his own ball at the 15th, the course record at Oake Manor is -6!
