MENDIP Golf Club’s Pro Shop 4bbb saw a much smaller entry than normal due to the dreadful weather. However, this did not prevent the winners David Goldie, handicap 1, and William Burns, handicap 20, recording an excellent 45 points.

However this was still only one better than the runners up Kelvin Adams and Seniors Captain Elect Paul Godwin. Well done both Pairs. Mark Redwood and Adrian Cross were 3rd with 41.

Sixty Ladies played in the 9 hole Waltzing Matilda Competition, played in Teams of 4. The winners were Diane Stanton, Susy Rudkin, Penny Oliver and Corinne Durbin with 37 points. In 2nd place came Maggie Brain, Lynne Vowles, Annette Jobbins and Suzie Howe with 36 after count back from Lena Warren, Jenny Ahlberg, Min Woodward and Rosemary Brown.

There were 4 teams tied for 4th place which after count back saw the team of Carol Curtis, Anita Butcher, Pauline Williams and Louise Scott secure 4th place.

There was an excellent turnout of 40 players for the Mixed Social Golf 4 Person Texas Scramble event played in poor weather conditions. The Winners were Julie Doyle, Charlie Holmes, Mark Necker and Susy Rudkin with a net 53. 2nd place with 57 came Alan and Rebecca Edwards, Louise and Tony Scott beating Anne and David Collins and Gill and Jon Lowen on count back. Hayley Bullock, Rosemary Brown, Phillip McKenny and John Ward were 4th with 59.

Meanwhile, at the recent Somerset County Ladies Golf AGM, Susie Howe collected the County Grass Roots Trophy before Aimee Sawyer collected the Runners Up Salver and Scratch Cup from the County Championships, then the Holt Shield being part of Mendip’s winning team at the County Championships, her two fellow members being Connie Cox and Libbie Dezis, and finally she collected the Cairns Cup for the Best Gross Score at the Handicap Championships.
