Mendip Ladies’ Stableford attracted 39 entrants and was played in bitterly cold weather for late April. Division One saw a win for Edwina Willis with 36 points with Lulu Carolan second with 33 and Chris Down third with 32. Division Two went to Karen Cookson with 32 points, Jo Espley was second with thirty points after count back from Dee Garnsworthy. Division Three saw an outstanding round of forty points from thirteen-year-old Connie Cox with Elaine Richardson second with 37 and Susy Rudkin third with 34 after a triple countback.

A further three ladies played the Medal event which saw a win for Lynn Cox with an excellent net 76. Nine ladies chose to play the nine hole stableford with best score going to Alison Letts with twenty points beating Mary Ainsworth by a single point, So in total 51 ladies played a competitive round on the Tuesday Ladies day, an impressive number.

The Ladies’ weekend stableford saw a win for Anita Butcher with 28 points, Elaine P Richardson was second with 27 after countback from Nichola Croft and Connie Cox.

The Ladies A Team commenced their league programme in Division Three of the Bristol and District Alliance with a home fixture against Henbury B Team. This resulted in a very hard fought victory 8-6 with wins coming from fifteen-year-old Ellen Reakes, Mendip’s latest scratch female golfer, Mendip new Member Lynne Vowles playing off ten, Edwina Willis and Chris Down. Well done ladies.

Fifteen pairings took part in a Social Mixed Golf event played in a bitterly cold north wind. The mixed group were very pleased to welcome two pairs of new Members Alan and Alison Kay and David and Lillian Peel. With bonus points on offer on the par 3’s scoring was ‘varied’! Winners were Bryan Lewis and Penny Oliver with 50 points with Mike and Julia Phillips second with 48.

The Pro Shop nearest the pin competition was won by John Ellis with Chris Butland second and Matt Bendall third.

When Director of Golf, now Club Manager Stuart Disney came to Mendip in 2017, it is fair to say that the Junior Section after many very successful years had by then virtually ceased to exist. However, through Stuart’s efforts and those of certain parents, a transformation is taking place. The organising Team has now been further strengthened by the arrival of new Professional, Alex Todd.

There are now 22 Juniors with handicaps with a further 33 regular youngsters working towards gaining theirs. Five of the handicap holding Juniors are young ladies with one of those, Ellen Reakes, now off scratch. Sunday afternoons often see a nine hole competition taking place, Mendip now once again has a team in the Somerset Junior League and Saturday mornings see regular junior coaching sessions taking place. Junior Captain this year is sixteen-year-old Josh Seviour.
