FIFTY-FOUR pairs competed for the Hodder Cup at Mendip Golf Club with the top 32 qualifying for the KO stages. Winning on count back were Spencer Pocock/Ross Keyworth with a net 62, Nicholas Sharp/William Burns were 2nd. There were five pairs tied on 63, the best on count back being Andrew Robinson/Wayne Dryburgh.

However the round of the day came from the returning Jack Vowell who playing off handicap1 recorded a new club record of a gross 66, giving him 42 points. Jack’s round included a hole in one.

Sixty-six played in the Mid Week Stableford. Div 3 went to Rob Richardson with 39 points with Mike Tout 2nd with 37 and John Toull 3rd with 36. Div 2 was won by Darrin Vowell with 38 points, Mike Merrick was 2nd with 36 after count back from John Stembridge. In Div 1 Dan Owen was 2nd with 39 beating Joe Reilly on count back. 

Mendip had an excellent win in the County Somerset Bowl event, beating Weston away 4-1 with wins from Jack Hayes/Rob Cook, Darrin & Jack Vowell, Jon Coates/David Jukes and Dan Allen/Spencer Pocock.

The Avalon C team visited Minehead and went down 1-4 with a win for Gary Quin/Tony Logan.

The Ladies Alliance A team halved their match with Saltford with wins coming from Lynne Vowles,Lena Warren, Fran Davies and with a half from Ellen Reakes.

In the County event the Foursomes Centenary Plate, Jane Ball and Chris Down enjoyed a fine win over last year's champions Burnham & Berrow.

Fifty-one Ladies played in the qualifying Stableford. Edwina Willis won Div 1 with 36 points after count back Aimee Sawyer with Michelle Young 3rd with 35. Div 2 went to Lyn Jones with 38 with Corrina Bates 2nd with 36 after count back from Gina Howard. Div 3 was won by Wendy Collins with 37 with Suzie Howe 2nd with 36 and Pauline Williams was 3rd with 35.

The 9 hole event was won by Liz Rose with 18 points with Elaine Richardson 2nd with 16.

The Seniors had a fine 5-0 win over Oake Manor in the Somerset Seniors Bowl.

The Friendly Team achieved a good halved match when visiting Yeovil in drizzly conditions and faced with heavily sanded greens but did not fare as well when visiting Wells, going down 1-4.

The Spring Open Bowmaker saw a good entry with the winning team coming from Yeovil and Came Down scoring 85 points.
