THE Junior Club Championships at Mendip Golf Club was hotly contested, with a 9 hole event for the young juniors, an 18-hole Stableford for players with handicap from 24 up to 54 and a medal competition for players with handicaps up to 24.

The Junior Club Champion for 2026 is Junior Captain, Libbie Dezis. The Pete Davis Trophy for best nett score went to Lauren Morris. The Junior Stableford Champion was Hector Brooking-Clarke and the Geoff Fisher Golf Development Trophy went to Jacob Hartley.

This event also concluded the Junior Order of Merit and the winner was Hector Brooking-Clarke. Congratulations to all the winners.

Meanwhile, the Mendip Bowmaker was won by Jack Cook, Alan Broadway, Ben Park and Des Deane with 85 points. Runners-up were Glynn Haddock, Phil Butcher, Tony Scott and Phil Mckenny with 83 points.

The Anniversary Cup was won by Miles Hackett, with a fine nett 66, playing off 3 handicap. Runner up was Tim Flagg, also with a 66, losing out on countback. The best gross score was Rob Edney with a 72, just pipping Club Champion Dan Owen on countback.

The September Mid-Week Stableford saw Miles Hackett continued his fine form, winning Division 1 with 38 points. Division 2 went to Paul Apfelstedt with 41 points and Phil Bissett took Division 3 with 39 points.

Wyke Trophy - This Four Ball Betterball Stableford Matchplay is played by the Ladies Section versus the Senior Men’s Section.

Seniors’ Captain, Paul Godwin had called up his “best” troops, a mixture of low to medium handicappers while acting Ladies’ Captain for the Day, Jane Ball relied on youth and experience with a mix of ages from 12 to 80 of low, medium and high handicappers, proving that competitive golf can be played by anyone at any age.

At the halfway stage, the match was drawn. However, the last two matches were won by the Seniors, giving them overall victory by 4.5 points to 2.5.

Win or lose, it didn’t matter too much in the end. The real winners on the day were the camaraderie between the teams, strengthening the links between the Sections, making and renewing friendships from a shared love of golf and rounding off the day with a very good meal provided by the catering team.

The Barbara Jose medal was played in tough conditions and the winner was Gill Lowen with a nett 75. Runner up was Jenny Merrett.

The September Mid-Week Stableford was won by Sandra Hares with 39 points.

The Ladies Club Foursomes & Daily Mail Qualifier was won by Maureen Charlton & Pauline Young with 31 points, closely followed by Jennifer Ahlberg & Linda Papadopoullos with 31 points. Maureen & Pauline will represent Mendip Golf Club in the national Daily Mail Foursomes in 2027.

The Mendip Vase 4BBB Open attracted a field of 94 players. The winning pair, with a fabulous score of 47 points, was Stephen Ledger & Pater Daulby. Closely followed by Chris Macey & Toby Cole on 46 points. The top 14 pairs all scored over 40 points.

A total of 102 Seniors played for the Seniors Centenary Cup with the winning score being 41 points by Simon Wynn. Runner up with 40 points was Mike Tout.

The Seniors Pairs Competition was won by John Roper and Tony Scott with an excellent 45 points. Runners-up were Malcolm Dawkins and Steve Regler with 44 points.
