Mendip’s Autumn Open Bowmaker attracted a full field of 99 competitors with a large number of visitors, all of whom were very complimentary about the course. Blessed with fine weather, the results again saw the visitors outscoring the home teams.

The first Mendip Team were David Cox/Norman Squire/Keith Gadsden, with 79 points on countback from Michael Gardiner/Paul Drew/Nigel Brokenshire, with Chris Bennett/Keith Beasley/ Alan Evans-Jones third with 77.

The first Visitors prize went to Wayne Black, partnered by two West Wilts players with an outstanding 88 points, yet they only won on countback from Troy Chivers and two Farrington players. In third place, on 81 points, were Robert Wells and two Farrington players, again on countback from a team from Burnham and Berrow/Weston-super-Mare /The Kendleshire.

Mendip’s first Turkey Trot competition was a Texas Scramble, and saw some extremely close scoring. Winning on countback were Duncan Bratt/Michael Gardiner/Spencer Pocock with 60.2.

The Ladies’ Stableford saw a clear win for June Page/Jinhee Page/Anne Hopkins, with 128. Further Ladies’ awards were announced this week, with Ellen Reakes winning the D. A. Roberts Trophy for the biggest handicap reduction during the season; Fran Davies winning the Jane Treble Trophy for the most points gained playing for the Alliance A Team; Hilary Rowdon winning the Andrea Williams Trophy for most points won for the Alliance B Team; and finally Edwina Willis winning the Ladies Order Of Merit.

The Ladies’ Friendly Team finished their season with a most-enjoyable but difficult fixture, when visiting Burnham, losing 1-4 in bright and sunny weather. The lightning fast greens proved very testing, even to the home players. Successful for Mendip were Nichola Croft and Captain, Allison Rumming, who wishes to thank all the Ladies who represented Mendip’s Friendly Team this season.

Sixteen pairs competed in Mendip’s Mixed Foursomes medal event. Despite recording a seven on the par-three 12th, victory went to Greens Chairman, Richard Jeffrey, playing with his ten-year-old daughter, Daisy, with a net-72.

In second place were Keith Gadsden/Jinhee Page with 73.5 on countback from Chris Olds/Martyn Russell. Other notable performances included thirteen-year-old Ellen Reakes with Ryan Sainsbury, who were seventh with 78.5, but even more noteworthy, in sixth place with 77.5, came Ben Cox and his ten-year-old daughter, Connie. It is a delight to see three young Ladies competing and doing so well.

The latest Bull’s Eye Challenge saw Scott Butland winning with 23 points; in joint second place were Jim Boyce and Ryan Sainsbury, and third was Tony Taylor.
