The course at Mendip has seen seven-and-a-half inches of rain during the past two weeks, resulting in a Seniors’ and a Men’s Competition having to be cancelled.

However, general play has continued with little evidence of any mud on the fairways, with the main greens in play and putting extremely well – one major advantage of being situated ‘high on the hill’!

The Ladies’ Open Bowmaker and Craft Fair event went ahead with 54 competitors. The early starters had the best of the weather, as the rain increased in severity as the day progressed. The winning visitors’ team came from Worlebury with 75 points, with a Sherborne team second with 73 and a combined Brean/Sherborne team third with 66, after countback. The winning Mendip Team were Allison Rumming/Gina Howard/Susy Rudkin with 70, with Sandie Roper/Dee Garnsworthy/Julia Phillips second with 67.

A visitor from Sherborne, Jill Scott, will not forget her day, achieving a hole-in-one on the 17th. The Craft Fair was well-attended, and Ladies’ Captain, Marian Speed, was delighted to announce that £815 had been raised on the day for her specified charity, the Freewheelers.

The Ladies’ Alliance A Team finished their season with a good win, 8-6, away to The Kendleshire, with wins from Aimee Sawyer, Ellen Reakes, Marian Speed and Chris Olds. This left them safely in third position in the League. The B Team went down, 5-9, to Knowle in their final fixture, with wins for Jo Espley and Lulu Carolan, and a half for Jan Fukuyama.

The Pro Shop Bulls Eye Challenge event was won by Tony Taylor, with Alan Roper second and Ellen Reakes third, and in the previous week’s event, the win went to Matt Bendall, with Tony

Taylor second and Oliver Saunder third.

There will now be a break in reports whilst the club Press Officer enjoys a well-earned holiday!
