NINETY-TWO men competed in Mendip Golf Club’s 4 man Texas Scramble. Top score of the day came from Dan Allen/ Tom Chapman/Spencer Pocock/Mitchell Rose with a net 54.

However they fell foul of the Handicap qualification rules and therefore were unable to claim their prize. The winners were Craig Drew/Tom Hill/Joe Reilly/Zac Wheeler with 55, beating on count back William Burns/Adrian Cross/Mark Redwood/Tom Young. Third with 56 came Kevin Brimble/Danny Durbin/John Hartley/Gary Prater with they in turn beating on count back Nigel Brokenshire/Andrew Shakesby/John Shakesby/Tony Taylor.

The Ladies 9 hole Stableford attracted 48 competitors and was won by the amazing 90 year old Joan Clark who, in tricky conditions, managed 20 points. It was only five or six years ago that I was reporting Joan having a hole in one on the old par 4 18th! Keep taking the tablets Joan!!

Div 1 went to Edwina Willis with 18 points after a 4 way tie leaving Linda Papadopoullos 2nd, Gill Lowen 3rd and Aimee Sawyer 4th. Div 2 was won by Annette Jobbins with 19, Chris Olds was 2nd with 18 and Chris Down 3rd with 17. Div 3 went to Caroline Simper with 19 after count back from Suzie Howe with Caroline Laws 3rd with 17 after count back from Julia Phillips.

Seventy-four sSeniors set out to play in the Autumn Salver, with quite a few already withdrawing due to the forecast conditions of high winds and heavy storms. As it turned out the earlier competitors missed the worst of the weather which came in later, forcing a suspension when the greens started flooding, At this stage a further 20 or so called it a day.

However the weather then cleared and the late starters enjoyed the best of conditions. Div 1 went to David Forshaw with 37 points with Jeremy Lawrence 2nd with 36 on count back from Steve Davis. Div 2 was won by Gareth Collier with 35, Keith Beasley was 2nd with 34 and Mike Tout was 3rd with 32. Div 3 saw a win for John Treeby with 36, Stephen Smith was 2nd with 33 and Bill Chard was 3rd with 30 after count back from Martin Roper. However the event was won by Paul Cairns with 38 points. Well done Paul.

The Mixed Social Golf event attracted a fine entry of 18 pairs and with a 4bbb format but with both to count on the Par 3s, saw a win for Jane and Steve Ball with a fine 46 points. Anita and Phil Butcher were 2nd with 44 points after count back from Hayley Bullock and Phillip McKenny with Rosie Brown and John Ward 4th with 41.

This Report finishes with the results of the final Summer KO’s beginning with the Jim Thame Foursomes this year won by the father and son combination of Phil and Matt Bendall who beat David Jukes and John Parham in the final.

The Juniors Matchplay Championship saw a win for Alec Roberts who beat Ralph Lewis in the final. And finally the Men’s Order of Merit Competition was this year won by Spencer Pocock with Darrin Vowles runner up and Rob Edney was 3rd.
