The Davies Cooler is a Mixed Four Ball Better Ball Knockout Competition played throughout the summer months. It’s very popular and the draw is done during the March mixed prize giving, meaning lots of ‘Ohs’ and ‘Arhs’ and general banter.
The 2015 competition had eighteen couples entering, four couples had to play the first round, the rest having to play in the second round. The runners up and the winners had to play through four rounds before meeting in the final. The runners up this year were Margaret Seery and Dave Forshaw, who were unable to hold the final winners, Dawn and Terry Stacey. At the presentation, after the mixed competition on Sunday, Terry thanked all the competitors who took part and said what a tough competition it had been, particularly playing against Pauline Brixey and Carl Dezis, Carl apparently drove well past Terry’s drive and then was on the green for nothing because of his handicap! Terry playing off 9 with Dawn off 15, are a very formidable pair.
Congratulations to them both.
Juniors
Glorious autumn sunshine greeted the 36 golfers for the annual Generation Trophy on Sunday, October 25th. This American Greensomes competition consisting of one junior and one adult is often a closely fought battle and this year was no exception.
With half of the field scoring over 36 points, it was clear to see that there is exceptional talent coming through the junior ranks. The future bodes well for the junior section. As the results poured in, it was looking like the final result would be decided on a countback, with third place going to Alex Bendall and Rich Salter, on 39 points and second place to Jack and Adrian Cronin, also on 39 points (including an impressive 23 points on the back nine). However, the trophy was claimed by the pairing of Jackson Carey and Shane Phelps, with a huge total of 43 points, which included a 5 point eagle 3 on the par 5 9th. Well done to all.
